GRAPHIC DESIGN

Your church can have good graphic design, no matter your budget

That’s a big claim!

Can churches actually have good design on a tiny or even non existent budget? I really do believe so. And a huge part of my mission here at Greater Worth is to help find creative solutions for churches with tiny budgets.

So let’s look 5 examples and I’ll share what I would recommend for each budget size as well as the services I offer for each category.

Large Budget

£5000+

In this category, you have enough money to be hiring a professional graphic designer. You could hire a freelance designer for specific projects such as your Christmas promotions.

Or if you’re looking for something more regular, consider hiring a designer on a retainer basis. Lots of designers offer a certain number of hours or projects per month for a slightly lower price, so this could be worth looking into.

You might even have the budget to hire a full time or part time designer on your staff team. You have lots of options!

Medium Budget

£600+

Even with a medium sized budget, you might be able to hire a designer for specific projects. While £500 won’t buy you a years worth of professional design, it might buy you one or two key projects. If you have a project you’re considering, why not ask for a few quotes?

It’s worth looking at designers who often work with churches or charities because they sometimes do discounts. At Greater Worth, I work primarily with churches and charities and my rates are charity rates. That means they are lower than what you’d expect to pay if you were a business. Small Budget

£200+

For churches with small budgets, I strongly believe that investing in training is the way to go! With the right training, you can equip a member of your church, or even a whole team, with graphic design skills so that you can produce everything in-house and never have to hire a designer again!

This is why I built the Church Graphic Design Training Programme. This is a self-paced course teaching the fundamentals of graphic design and applying them to a church context. It currently costs £300 to train one person, and if you buy one license you can request to train someone else in your church for free by dropping me an email. If you’re looking to train more than two people, let me know and we can work out a deal for you.

There’s so much good training available for churches with small budgets. Don’t underestimate the value of training your people! It can serve your church for years.

Tiny Budget

£1+

If you’re a church with a tiny budget, I’d recommend looking for cheap resources such as templates to help you. You can buy ready made Canva templates, designed by professionals, which can save you time and upgrade your level of design.

There are lots of different marketplaces that sell these, such as Etsy. I run the Church Design Shop which sells graphic design tools and templates for churches to use. And you choose the price you pay for every product, meaning nothing is beyond your budget.

No Budget

£0

If your church has no budget to spend on graphic design, don’t despair! I still believe you can have excellent design. You just need to look for free training and free resources.

I wrote an article about where to find free resources for church graphic design, so you might like to check that out.

When it comes to free training, YouTube is your friend. I run a YouTube channel called Greater Worth which teaches graphic design for church contexts. But there are also loads of channels that will teach you general graphic design principles that can also be really helpful.

I hope this article has convinced you that you absolutely can have good good graphic design, no matter how small your budget is. It doesn’t always look like hiring a designer, sometimes it looks like finding free or cheap resources to help you.
