How you'll learn
16 detailed video lessons
16 in-depth lessons guide you through everything you need to know about designing for your church. In these lessons you’ll learn the importance of graphic design in the church and how you can use it to serve your church and community. You’ll master the timeless graphic design principles that can be applied to any project and in any software. You’ll discover a design process that you can repeat again and again, for every single one of your projects. You’ll gain an understanding of how to work with colour, image and typography. And you’ll learn how to apply all of this to a church context.
Whether you’re a complete beginner or have some previous experience, these video lessons will equip you with everything you need to know to serve your church with graphic design.
Analysing design examples
In these lessons you’ll gain a greater understanding of how design principles are applied by analysing both good and bad compositions. Hundreds of church-specific design examples are used to demonstrate key principles and ideas.
Design walk-throughs
After learning a key design concept, the lesson ends with a design walk-through. We’ll take a poor example of design and apply what we’ve learnt that lesson to turn it into an effective design. These worked examples will help consolidate your understanding of important design principles and will help you train your eye to spot potential issues in your work and teach you how to fix them.
Practice project design briefs
Throughout the programme, you’ll be given optional practice projects in the form of a design brief which help you apply your new knowledge. These briefs are inspired by real church projects, so you’ll gain valuable experience of designing for a church context. You’ll be taught the importance of creating a brief for your own projects and you’ll learn how your brief influences every aspect of your design. Practicing applying your understanding of design principles in this way will hone your ability to create compositions that are both effective and beautiful.

What you'll learn
In the first module, you’ll develop a thorough understanding of purpose and process which will inform your approach to all of your projects. We’ll establish the ‘why’ behind everything we do when we design for church. You’ll learn why your work as a designer is valuable and how you can use it in a way that serves your church.
We’ll also consider the importance of a simple design process. Every designer has a process, whether they’re intentional about it or not. So adopting an effective process is an essential part of growing as a designer.
In the second module, we’ll get into the nitty gritty of design principles. Learn about the 5 main design principles of contrast, hierarchy, space, structure and unity. Discover how to practically apply these principles to any project. These 5 principles should influence everything we design.
You’ll also be given an optional practice design brief to complete. These are designed to help you apply what you’ve just learnt in the video lessons.
Module three takes an in depth look at the most common design elements. When we design, we combine a variety of elements to create a composition that has purpose. You’ll learn how to craft good typography, how to work with colour in a compelling way, and how to incorporate images and branding into your compositions.
In this module, practice briefs give you the opportunity to focus on each of these elements individually and practice how to apply them to church-specific projects.
In the final module, we have four case studies. You’ll learn about four common types of media that you might be involved in designing including posters, flyers, bulletins and websites. These examples purposefully cover printed and digital designs, large scale and small scale designs, designs that are seen and designs that are interacted with. You’ll then consider how you can continue to grow as a designer beyond this programme.

Meet your teacher
Hi, I’m Abby. I’ll be your teacher!
I began my career as a secondary school teacher in the UK. Alongside this I was creating graphics for churches and charities in a volunteer capacity. I retrained as a Graphic Designer and worked for a large church as an in-house designer. I’ve had the opportunity to work on Church graphic design projects as a volunteer, freelancer and staff member.
Bringing together my teaching and design backgrounds in a way that serves the church has felt like such a natural way to use my gifts. I’ve loved creating this programme for you. I hope it helps you learn to use graphic design well for your church!

How it works
1. Gain Immediate Access
2. Follow a Structured Curriculum
The Training Programme is divided into 4 modules, with 16 lessons in total. Each lesson is a video, taught by a qualified teacher which are all available immediately. You’ll have access to the course materials for one year. This allows you to plan your studies around your existing schedule and work at your own pace.
3. Use your new skills to serve your church
Take your new-found creative skills and start creating beautiful designs which connect with people in your church and your community.
FAQ
How much time should I dedicate to the Training Programme?
The Training Programme is made up of 16 individual lessons. Each of these includes a video lesson which range from 5-22 minutes long. The lessons are detailed and if you’re taking notes, you’ll probably want to pause the video from time to time. Many of the lessons are accompanied by a practice project brief. These should take you around an hour to complete. The Programme will likely take you between 8-20 hours in total, depending on how much time you spend working on the practice briefs.
It’s not recommended to complete all the lessons in one go. We recommend spreading them out so you can implement what you’ve been learning as you go along. Why not commit to one lesson a day? Or even one a week? You’ll have access to the Programme for a year so you really can work at your own pace.
If I'm buying multiple licences for my church, can I get a discount?
For a limited time only, if you purchase one membership for your church, you can request one free license for another person in your church. To request this additional license, simply contact [email protected] once you’ve registered.
Is this a subscription or a one-time purchase?
The Training Programme is a one-time purchase. You’ll pay once and have access to the course for one year. You won’t pay again.
Can I get a refund if I'm not satisfied?
We’re pretty confident that you’ll enjoy the Programme, but if you find it’s not for you we offer a 30-day no-questions-asked full refund. See our refunds policy for more information.
What software do I need?
Whatever you’ve got! I’m a big believer that skill is more important than software when it comes to design. The principles that you’ll learn in this course can be applied to designs created on any software. So whether you’re using Affinity, Canva, Photoshop or Microsoft Word, you’ll be able to complete this course, including all of the practice projects.
Can I access the course from my country?
Yes! We are based in the UK which is why prices on this website are listed in GBP, but the course is accessible internationally.
